Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday, visited the Presidential Villa, Abuja where he presented himself to President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm that he is alive and contrary to earlier reports, he was not involved in an accident. El-Rufai also said that he was seeking to arrest  the peddlers of the news that he was involved in a fatal accident, saying if located, the peddlers of the false story  would be made to face criminal charges.

“The election was marred by killing, apparent rigging, ballot box snatching and destruction of ballot papers by hired thugs. It was highly militarized by soldiers loyal to Muhammadu Buhari. An election that culminates in the killing of 47 unarmed Nigerians is not an election... “As long as we continue with this ballot box and ballot paper nonsense, Nigerian elections will continue to be theatres of war. We must quickly develop an electronic voting system for the 2023 elections where data in our PVCs are transferred to our telephone sim cards that will enable Nigerians to vote from the convenience of their homes."

American Congressman, Gerald Connolly, has bemoaned manipulation of elections in Nigeria, claiming they were a sham and not credible.

Five paragraphs into the monster blog post that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg published yesterday afternoon, he makes a damning, strangely understated admission: “frankly we don’t currently have a strong reputation for building privacy protective services.”

That one line is the context for the rest of Zuckerberg’s 3,500-word post in which he discusses privacy, messaging, and the future of Facebook. The problem isn’t simply that Facebook has a terrible reputation on privacy. It’s that we’ve come to a point where the company’s leader can take years of growing mistrust and real human damage as a given.

With his latest post, Zuckerberg is trying to redefine Facebook. The Facebook he built over the past 15 years is fundamentally structured around a model of privacy and sharing that we’ve realized is problematic and harmful. People are now demanding privacy and ephemerality, and the Facebook of today, Zuckerberg seems to have concluded, just can’t offer that.

FACEBOOK IS UNPOPULAR, AND EPHEMERAL SHARING HAS WON OUT
To start with the obvious: Facebook is not popular. An Axios Harris poll released yesterday found that the company’s reputation sank substantially over the past year, putting it close to last among the 100 most visible US companies. After years of scandals and a particularly bumpy 2018, Facebook is increasingly synonymous with data breaches, fake news, propaganda, a wanton disregard for privacy, creepy ad-tracking practices, and generally not being a comfortable space to hang out online.

Facebook’s overall growth already seemed to be stalling in the US, and a recent report out yesterday said the social network may be losing millions of users. Critically, that’s concentrated among younger users from 12 to 34 years old. The ephemeral model pioneered by Snapchat has clearly won out, even if Snapchat itself is struggling. Facebook hasn’t entirely failed to embrace these models (it cloned Snapchat’s disappearing Stories feature across every property it owns), but they’re still the exception rather than the norm.

Writing one blog post, however long, isn’t going to suddenly change this. For the most part, Zuckerberg’s post is a statement of intent — a signal to users, governments, journalists, and his own employees about where the company plans to focus its efforts. We should stop thinking about Facebook as the Friends list, Likes, and News Feed, he seems to be saying. Instead, we should think of it as a collection of relatively well-liked messaging services: WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger.

ZUCKERBERG DESCRIBES A NEW FACEBOOK THAT DEEMPHASIZES THE NEWS FEED AND ITS PROBLEMS
To make that happen, Zuckerberg says Facebook will increasingly refocus around small group messaging, encrypted services, and ephemeral communications. He describes a platform that feels personal, takes your privacy seriously, and isn’t in the news for sparking human rights abuses. A platform “where people can be confident what they say to each other stays secure and their messages and content won’t stick around forever,” Zuckerberg writes. “This is the future I hope we will help bring about.”

Zuckerberg describes it almost as though he’s building a new Facebook. He refers to this imagined future as a singular “privacy-focused platform,” rather than as a series of disparate apps and services. Throughout the note, the current Facebook platform is only ever referred to as a bad example — “many people ... have photos from when they were younger that could be embarrassing” — or when mentioning how this new system will integrate it with better-liked apps.

What goes unstated is that the News Feed — the core of Facebook’s success and chaos — seems to be a legacy product in this world. The News Feed has been critical to Facebook: it’s where people get updates on friends and where most of the company’s advertising revenue comes from. But it’s also been responsible for a great deal of Facebook’s problems. It’s where misinformation spreads, where combative arguments with old acquaintances are sparked, and where publishers big and small compete to game the network. The News Feed is the reason why, even though “only” 1.8 million people followed a Russian propaganda-linked Facebook page, posts by those pages were able to spread to 140 million people.

THIS MORE PRIVATE MODEL HAS PROBLEMS OF ITS OWN
There’s no indication that the News Feed, or any other part of Facebook as we know it, is going to disappear. But Zuckerberg is clearly interested in shifting attention away from the News Feed’s troubles and toward a more limited model for sharing information. This is roughly what exists on WhatsApp already — a model that, while more private, can still lead to troubling, real-world problems of its own — but it would radically reshape what the company looks like and how it makes money.

We should take this idea with a whole shaker’s worth of salt. Zuckerberg has made grand proclamations about the future of Facebook before, and they rarely take shape exactly as he describes them. Five years ago, he was talking about building next-generation computing platforms with virtual reality, something that is still in the works, but with a distinctly smaller vision around it. Privacy features, too, are something Facebook has moved slowly on: its promised “clear history” tool was supposed to arrive in the first half of 2018, but it’s now scheduled for sometime later in 2019.

For now, it’s evident where Zuckerberg sees things heading. He sees Facebook as behind the times and playing catch-up. His users have been demanding stricter privacy, more ephemerality, and less invasive services for years. Today’s Facebook doesn’t offer that, and Zuckerberg may finally be ready to try something else.
AtikuMore revelations have continued to emerge from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s investigation into alleged money laundering involving Atiku Abubakar’s lawyer, Uyiekpen Osagie-Giwa, and the ex-Vice-President’s  son-in-law, Abdullahi Babalele.

Bureau de change operators and other suspects being interrogated for the laundering of €150m have disclosed to the anti-graft agency how Osagie-Giwa and Babalele used an offshore firm, Intels West Africa,  and many other shell companies to launder millions of dollars.

There are indications that Osagie-Giwa  and Babalele, who have been arrested by the EFCC, allegedly attempted to  use  money  to induce  voters  to vote  Atiku, who represented  the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  in the February 23  presidential poll.

North Korea test firing a rocket at its Sohae Satellite Launching Station
North Korea has started restoring part of a long-range rocket launch site it dismantled last year, according to a report published on Wednesday by Washington-based think tank 38 North.

Satellite evidence suggests that work had begun at the Sohae Satellite Launching Station in the run-up to a summit in Vietnam between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump, 38 North said.

"On the launch pad, the rail-mounted transfer building is being reassembled," said the report. "Two support cranes are observed at the building, the walls have been erected and a new roof added. The walls appear to be one segment taller than the previous transfer building and new truss is being installed."

South Korean media reported on Wednesday that lawmakers were briefed by intelligence officials about ongoing developments at the launch site, which was previously used to assemble space-launch vehicles and conduct rocket engine tests.

The site was dismantled last year as part of Kim's pledge to denuclearize at a historic US-North Korea summit in Singapore.

Poor diplomacy

The report comes after the second summit between Trump and Kim failed to achieve progress on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Trump blamed the summit breakdown on Kim for demanding extensive sanctions relief in exchange for further denuclearization. But experts told DW that the talks collapsed because Trump had failed to entrust diplomats with carrying out pre-summit negotiations to secure a deal.

"As a consequence, he got into that meeting and he didn't get what he wanted," Eurasia Group founder Ian Bremmer told DW last week. "They weren't prepped properly, and he had to walk away from the meeting. He has no one to blame but himself."

US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun, who led pre-summit negotiations efforts, is expected to meet with South Korean and Japanese negotiators on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, US State Secretary Mike Pompeo said he believes Washington will send a delegation to North Korea in the coming weeks. But efforts to restart negotiations could be stalled after Trump's national security adviser Michael Bolton warned of "ramping those sanctions up."
The Islamic State has sacked Abu Mus’ab Al-barnawi as the leader of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction of the Boko Haram insurgent group.
A member of the Nigerian Senate, Dino Melaye, has again accused Kogi state government of planning to assassinate him on March 8 or 9.
Melaye, who is representing Kogi West Senatorial District at the National Assembly got reelected in last Saturday’s senatorial election defeating his closest rival of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Smart Adeyemi.
The controversial lawmaker, who made the allegation in a message posted on his verified Twitter handle on Sunday, however, boasted that the alleged assassination plan would fail.
“Kogi State Government is planning to attack me on the March 8 or 9. You will fail as always. God is my defence at all times. Nigerians take note,” he wrote.
The "Lion of Buordillion" who may have mobilized them with the aid of the Bullion Vans didn't direct that they attack a specific ethno-religious group.
The February 23 Presidential election was by far one of the most desperately conducted elections in the history of Nigeria Democracy. It may in fact be ranked as the worst election ever.
This was an election that was conducted amidst unprecedented state aggression, physical and psychological intimidation. Complicated by a "shoot on sight order" issued by the presidency purportedly against ballot box snatchers, circumstances surrounding the conduct of the elections later revealed that the much touted shoot on sight was in fact meant to intimidate voters and enforce a voter apathy.
The elections witnessed unprecedented violence. In Lagos, the APC through their "crime boss" Tinubu, with the aid of the bullion vans, used thugs to snatch ballot boxes, disrupt elections and foment violence. The bullets, stones and bottles that were flying around had no respect for your ethnic group or religious inclinations. They had no idea whether you were Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba or Efik. The "Lion of Buordillion" who may have mobilized them with the aid of the Bullion Vans didn't direct that they attack a specific ethno-religious group. They particularly intimidated anyone and everyone perceived to be against there desperation to cling onto power.
In all of the madness of this electoral violence, our lifeless Bubu eventually emerged amidst gross unpopularity. It wasn't long before he told Nigerians that the next four years would be tough. You and I should begin to wonder what the next four years would look like especially when the last four years were extremely hotter than hell. Well! We won't blame him. APC did told us they were taking us to the "next level" and for people who play video or phone games, you know the next level is always tougher. But you should also know that this "Next Level" has no respect for your ethno-religious sentiments, it does not know your tribe neither has it any respect for your religion.
But you know what, in this same "next level", Tinubu and his rich friends/allies in the APC/PDP would live very fat on the sufferings of the Nigerian people.
As the gubernatorial election draws closer, the APC and their caged "Lion" in Burdillon have set out other machinations to intimidate voters and foment violence. In the presidential election, the callous method was a shoot on sight order. This time around, they intend to mobilize the instrument of ethnic sentiment. They intend to put together a drama of ethnic war, divide voters along ethnic lines and intimidate the Igbo population from voting.
Let someone please tell this "Iragbiji" man who now leaves in Buordillion (all thanks to stolen wealth) that Lagos belongs to all who reside in it and all those who intend to migrate to the state. Just like the other states in Nigeria, Lagos belongs to all Nigerians of all tribes, ethnicity and religion. Lagos belong to Lagosians and we are all Lagosians just as we are all Nigerians.

Ladies, here's what men think of you each time you ask them for money.

Asking a guy for money few days after meeting him is so wrong. He'll definitely regard you as a cheap girl even if you're not.

A guy may approach you with serious intentions but how you go about "money" can easily change his mind.

Don't wrap your head around the misleading fact that once you meet a guy, you're entitled to his money. Build that friendship and mutual trust then let things flow naturally.

A guy that genuinely likes you will gladly give you money even when you don't ask, unless he doesn't have it or he's stingy.

It's OK to ask your man for money but don't just ring him up asking for money for petty things which you should be capable of. It will make you look cheap and unserious.

Ask for money with home training. Don't ask for it like it's your right. Don't threaten him with quitting the relationship if he doesn't give it to you.

A woman who lives by getting from her man will never become independent and men will always rubbish such a woman.

Some rich, independent ladies wouldn't have gotten to where they are today if they believed a man must always foot their bills.

Strive hard to become independent and always see your man's pocket as a backup option whenever you need finance to help you grow as a woman not everyday recharge card, T-fair and money to make your hair.

Remember, a good woman is her man's investment.

The True Version Of Onitsha Oguta Road Shooting And Death Of A Policeman And An Okada Rider

(Intersociety Nigeria, 13th August 2017)-The shooting leading to instant death of a policeman and an Okada civilian along Oguta Road and its adjoining Tasia Road in Onitsha today has nothing to do with inside church killing or killing of worshippers attending church service in the Assemblies of God Church; as was the case last Sunday (6th August 2017) in Ozubulu Community, Ekwusigo LGA of Anambra State.

Rather, the today’s Sunday shooting and killing were carried out by a three-man gang operating on a high speed motorcycle. The gang had accosted and opened fire on an armed policeman stationed in front of the gate of the Assemblies of God Church located on Oguta Road; killing him instantly after snatching his rifle. The three-man gang on a motorbike on getting to the nearby Tasia Road in their bid to escape, sighted a civilian Okada rider obstructing their escape route and shot him dead instantly  before escaping.

BUHARI LIFTED OUT OF LONDON WITHOUT DUE PROCESS TO AN UNDISCLOSED LOCATION.

Femi Adesina confirmed that BBC called him yesterday August 1 to find out from him if Buhari is returning back to Nigeria as his Jet left London.

Adesina in his reply said that he was not aware of his departure from London and that there is no information in Aso Rock that he is coming back.

Vanguard also called Femi Adesina to know where Presidential Jet headed to but he declined on the knowledge of where about the jet.

THE ABOVE PICTURE AS YOU CAN SEE IS BEING CELEBRATED BY THE APC THAT BUHARI IS BACK IN THE COUNTRY.

All the officials in the Aso Rock are not aware that Buhari is in Villa.
