There was pandemonium yesterday at the palace of the Igwe of Agulu, His Royal Highness, Igwe Innocent Elochukwu Obodoakor where the former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State was dissected and automatically banished from the Community by the traditional institution of Agulu. It was the worst condemnation for Peter Obi since he was lambasted by Nzuko Ndigbo in faraway New York four months ago where he was summarily banned from attending the 2017 annual conference of the association. The banishment followed the kangaroo town hall meeting Obi paid five million Naira to mobilizers who moved many people, some from Mile 2 bustop and Ajegunle just to answer ndi Agulu in Festac,Lagos State. The Igwe was angry that Peter Obi will gather foreigners and call them Agulu people. To the royal father and his Cabinet, Obi is a disgrace to Agulu as a Community. The show of shame was so bad that some of the participants on hearing that the event are for ndi Agulu protested that they are not from Agulu. However, the mobilisers had to prevail on the hired crowd to exercise patience so that they will be able to retire the millions released to them. Two Thousand Naira was shared to each hired participant in the Festac show of shame.
One of the sons of Agulu who attended the event reported what happened to the Igwe who immediately called the meeting of his Cabinet and Ichies of the Community and after hearing the abomination that took place in lagos, took the weighty decision to banish Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State from total interaction with the Community and it's people. Ichie Okoye queried why Obi did not extend invitation to the Igwe and his Cabinet since he has in mind to call a meeting of his subjects in Lagos. Hear Ichie Okoye, "It was the worst ever gathering in the history of the community". "While the hall is filled to it's brim, Agulu people present in that meeting are not up to twenty". He further revealed that even Yorubas passing by were called in to fill the seats and all were addressed as Agulu indegene he said. To Ichie Okoye, Peter Obi brought the worst kind of shame to his people.
In the same vein, the President General of Agulu lamented the embarrassment of lying with the youths of Agulu. He was not economical with words in describing Sir Obi. Hear him, "Obi behaved like a man who do not value his people. How can Peter Obi who was Governor of Anambra State but could not point to a completed project in Agulu under his name lied that he empowered Agulu youths?. The General Hospital in Agulu is an eyesore until the present administration waded in and revived it. The Agulu Lake Hotel is also one of such uncompleted projects by Obi." We the people of Agulu are unhappy that for eight years as Governor of Anambra State, Obi could not complete all the projects he started in Agulu.
However, Valentine Obienyem refuted the claims that they mobilised even Yorubas to the town hall meeting. He was adamant that they only mobilised some Igbos around mile 2 to fill up the seats. He queried the veracity of the claim that Yorubas were invited. He also confirmed that the Igwe of Agulu was not invited to the Town hall meeting because he has nothing to offer them at the event. Chief Obi is the resource person for the Town hall meeting and so there is no reason to invite the Igwe to the event. It is confirmed that Peter Obi has commenced subtle moves to lobby some members of Igwe's cabinet as regards punishment meted out to him and as at the time of going to the press, we are yet to ascertain if the Igwe and the Cabinet has lifted the ban.
It will be recalled that this is the first time, a citizen of Agulu is banished in this modern time. The last time such action was taken in Agulu was fifty years ago when a notorious criminal was banished from the Community. To discerning minds, this is a bad omen for Chief Obi and he must address it with all seriousness it requires.
