Citizens of Kaduna State woke up in the early morning yesterday with fears enveloping them as armed policemen laid-seize at strategic places in the metropolis.
The unassuming development which came barely 2 hours after the sacking of about 5000 District and Village heads in the state by government, set tongues wagging as to what could be the reason.
While some people were of the opinion that the security tense was informed by the feelings that there could be negative action in reaction to the fate of aforementioned traditional rulers, sources hinted that a planned press briefing by students of the closed down institutions in Southern Kaduna was the reason.
A visit to places like Angwar Rimi among others witnessed terrific presence of security operatives, mostly the state owned security outfit code named Operation Yaki, the police unit stationed strategically.
At the state secretariat of NUJ on Waff Road where the foiled press conference was billed to hold, some vehicles filled with stern-looking police officers and men were strategically positioned.
Though they were not harassing anybody, they were seen patrolling within and outside the premises housing business centres and assorted shops, a development which witnessed customers discussing in groups with unanswered questions on their lips.
Various roundabouts in the state capital, Banks and government offices equally witnessed security personnel on guard.
Even as it was not possible to reach the state police command for their reaction as at the time of filling this report, the State Council of NUJ, Alh Yusuf Adamu who said there was no cause for alarm disclosed that a press conference that was to be held by the students of Gidan Waya College of Education was responsible for the unusual presence of fierce-looking security operatives.
It would be recalled that the educational institution has been closed for months now. Consequently, the students felt they should draw the attention of the public to their plight.
