Pastor accused of human trafficking denied bail

Nigerian pastor, Timothy Omotoso has been denied bail by the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Magistrate Thandeka Mashile says the leader of the Jesus Dominion International Church is a flight risk, has no extraordinary circumstances and that he might intimidate witnesses.

Magistrate Mashiyi said he is facing schedule six charges and could face life imprisonment if found guilty. He has been charged with human trafficking, two charges of rape and ten charges of sexual assault.

Omotoso faces charges of human trafficking and sexual offences. He has been in custody since his dramatic arrest at the Port Elizabeth Airport in April.

A large number of people from the church and women organisations opposing bail gathered outside court during the proceedings.

The case is still under investigation and he will have to appear in court again on 17 July.
