Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has declared that Nigeria cannot afford any form of disintegration because “we are stronger as one than a divided entity.”
He said that the diversity of Nigeria was among the reasons for being respected by other countries
Osinbajo stated this on Thursday when he began a two-day official visit to Cross River State.
At the palace of the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, the Acting President appealed to Nigerians to work for a united than a divided nation.
He told the monarch that “Cross River State is so much an intriguing part of Nigeria and every part needs the other. We are greater together than apart. When people speak of Nigeria, it is because of its diversity. Unity is absolutely important because God wants us to be united.”
The Federal Government, he said, had taken bold steps to accommodate every Nigerian, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari would continue to work for the development of all sections of the country.
Osinbajo promised that the government would support all people-oriented projects in Cross River.
He called for peace and unity among the people of the state so that meaningful development can take place and declared that every part of Nigeria was important to the Federal Government.
Osinbajo, who performed the groundbreaking of the Ayade Industrial Park which comprises the digital garment factory, Calapharm (a pharmaceutical company) and Rice City, poultry farm among others, said that the industrial park would be a major industrial hub in Africa when completed.
“I am, therefore, honoured to perform the ground-breaking ceremony of this noble initiative. I commend the governor for this great ideal,” he said.
Responding, the Obong of Calabar pleaded that the traditional institution be given constitutional roles.
The monarch expressed gratitude to the Acting President for the visit. He lamented the loss of 76 oil wells and Bakassiland to Cameroun and the consequences and appealed to the government to boost infrastructural development in the state.
As mark of honour for the visit, the Obong conferred the traditional title of “Ada Idaha ke Efik” on Osinbajo.
The governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, expressed gratitude to him for the visit to the state.
