The information reaching our newsroom here in the French capital of Paris, is anything to go by, subterranean moves consisting of US President, Donald Trump-backed delegation would be arriving in Nigeria before long for urgent discussions with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to fast-track the process for a United Nations-supervised referendum for the Republic of Biafra.
This was contained in an email message to our Paris newsroom by Albert Wright.
According to him, he said the US President is very worried and therefore deeply concerned about the looming crisis in Nigeria and the need to take pro-active measure to forestall it.
This, he said, would be best handled by a referendum in the disputed 'Biafra territories' to enable the people to decide their political future without rancour, bitterness and unnecessary bloodshed.
The email reads in part:
''President Trump is gravely concerned about the looming crisis in Nigeria triggered by the ongoing agitations in the south-east of Nigeria and by extension the south-south regions which are opting to secede from the Nigerian Federation.
''It is the inalienable right of the people to decide on whose boat they want to sail as the country navigates through stormy waters. It is better for us to take pro-active steps to avoid the looming human catastrophe in that part of the world.''
''We cannot fold our hand and watch until the looming crisis snowballs into a full-blown conflict before we act.''
'The Trump-backed delegation unavoidably had to come to Nigeria since the Biafra separatist leader, Mr Kanu, is restricted by Nigerian laws to travel out of Nigeria at the moment.'', the statement added.
