The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, says the commission spent N100m on the failed attempt to recall the embattled Kogi-West lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye.
INEC chairman said this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday. Yakubu said the figure was nowhere near the N1bn being stated by the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said a recall exercise is just like conducting a Senatorial election, adding that Kogi-West which Melaye represents, has 552 polling units and seven local governments.
The INEC boss said ad-hoc staff were deployed in all the polling units. However, he failed to tell his fellow Nigerians that the exercise was one done in order to witch-hunt the Senator who decided to speak the truth at all times, and that their efforts to remove him was in futility.
